“You handled the situation very well”

A groom-to-be kicked the groomsman out of his wedding after a video game session went wrong.

He asked Reddit “Am I the A******? (AITA)” to weigh in on the issue. One day, his fiancée, May, repeatedly beat his witness, Andre, in video games. Andre was such a bad loser that he trashed May, so the Reddit poster kicked Andre out of the wedding.

“I’m engaged to May,” he said. “My best friend Andre is the best man. May is a huge anime and gamer fan. We’re all gamers, but she’s got, like, every system under the sun. May and Andre have always gotten along great, but they never really hung out near video games together. I invited him and two of our other friends over for a few beers and cigars. Andre heard May turn on her Switch, and he asked her if she had Super Smash Bros. .

“I warned Andre he was going to get beaten up, to which he commented, ‘Players don’t scare me.’ No, May didn’t hear it. Well, May adapted to Yoshi, and she destroyed everything. [my friends] without trying. I could see they were frustrated, so I suggested we do something else. Everyone except André was done with the games. He offered them to play Tetris. And, once again, André lost. Hard.”

But the Reddit poster was horrified when he heard André and his friends talking about May.

“May told the guys she was going to take a bathroom break and put her helmet down,” he explained. “I asked May if I could play the next round. She agreed and I put her headphones on, only to hear my friends talking about her. They would say things like ‘Why do girls do so much? ‘efforts’ and ‘She’s good at games, but I bet she couldn’t make a sandwich.’

“Now they didn’t know I was there, so I spoke up and told them to shut up. Andre laughed and said they were “just joking”, and I said it wasn’t funny, what if May came back and heard them? He said it was just a “player chat”, and I said no. Andre told me I was an a** and was coaching the band. He also told me that they wouldn’t speak harshly if I told May to stop trying so hard. Long story short, after a fight, I kicked Andre out of the wedding.

Redditors supported the fiancé’s decision.

“They are sexist because their ego is hurt by a woman better than them at the games. You handled the situation very well and you were right to call them,” someone wrote.

“Good to have defended her,” said another.

“He’s just mad that she didn’t let him win,” one person commented.
