BARTLESVILLE, Oklahoma., September 30, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Voice of the Martyrs is releasing a new short film telling an inspiring story of courageous faith in the face of persecution.
The Voice of the Martyrs publishes Rebecca: Nigeria for the International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians.
Rebecca: Nigeria tells the true story of a Nigerian Christian woman who stood helplessly with her daughter as Boko Haram militants killed her husband and son and burned down their house. After the attack, when she searched the charred remains of her home, Rebecca found the Bible she and her husband had received on their wedding day.
This short article, along with a number of free prayer resources, is published ahead of the International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians (IDOP) – a global prayer movement on Sunday November 6.
“It is hard to imagine the hardships that persecuted Christians in the north Nigeria face,” said Todd Nettleton, host of VOM Radio. “This year’s IDOP short film allows us to meet one of our sisters there, and to understand, a little, her suffering. May her story inspire us to pray for Nigeriaas well as for members of our spiritual family in other restricted and hostile nations.”
The 2022 VOM World Prayer Guide appointed Nigeria as a “hostile” nation.
“Attacks against Christians in Northern Nigeria have become so common that they are rarely mentioned by the global media,” Nettleton said. “Yet every attack means Christians are beaten, maimed or killed; losing all their belongings and being forced to flee for their lives. The media can ignore their suffering, but as members of the Body of Christ, we cannot.”
Request a free DVD and download free IDOP resources at persecution.com/idop.
VOM’s free IDOP resources this year include:
Download or copy DVD of Rebecca: Nigeria,
Promotional videos to broadcast during the religious service,
inserts in parish bulletins,
Guided Prayer Slides,
Questions for reflection and discussion,
And, a sermon-building resource for pastors and teachers.
Nettleton hopes “VOM’s IDOP resources this year will inspire hundreds of thousands of Christians around the world to pray for our family by Nigeria.”
