KENS 5 Weatherman Ryan Shoptaugh Proposes to His Girlfriend

Shoptaugh tells MySA that he has planned an intimate evening at Peggy’s on the Green restaurant in Boerne. But the perfect proposal was not made without a few hiccups.

“She [Victoria Escamilla] was a bit suspicious. The dinner reservation was at 5:15 p.m., so she was wondering why we were going to dinner so early,” he explained. “I thought maybe an hour would be enough to eat, but we didn’t have dinner. before 6 p.m.: 10 p.m.

Shoptaugh says his photographer warned him the sun was setting in 30 minutes.

“I just felt a little rushed about the food,” Shoptaugh said.

Alas, the couple made their way outside, across the field to a gazebo where Shoptaugh says he expressed his feelings to Escamilla.

“I took my time,” he said. “I spoke to her. I spoke from the bottom of my heart, and I knelt down and asked, ‘Victoria Lynn Escamilla, will you marry me,’ and she said yes, crying.”

The photographer was able to capture the special moment between the couple as the sun went down. Even the couple’s rescue dog, Stormy, appeared in the engagement photos.

Both born and raised in San Antonio, Shoptaugh and Escamilla met in high school in 2012. He says they started as friends and became best friends. It wasn’t until their friends got married that a romantic interest between the two began to develop.

“In 2016 we started dating, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Shoptaugh said of her fiancé. “She made me the happiest man alive.”

One of the things Shoptaugh says he admires the most about his future wife is her faith.

“It means so much to see her go to church on Sunday,” he said. “He’s probably the most selfless person I’ve ever met in my life.”

The happy couple have yet to set a wedding date, but are considering the option of keeping the nuptials in San Antonio or being adventurous with a destination wedding.
