New Delhi, December 20 (PTI) A Delhi court sentenced a wedding planner for flouting COVID-19 standards by allowing a gathering of more than 50 people at the reception in 2020, where none of the guests wore masks or maintained social distance.
The allegations against convict Sunil Narula were that he held the wedding ceremony at his farm in Delhi’s Nawada housing complex on December 11, 2020, where he cleared more than 50 people without following prescribed rules.

Following a complaint filed by his neighbor, two police officers went to the farm, where they found that none of the guests were wearing a mask and that no standard of social distancing was observed by the owner of the farm.
Police said the post was in violation of an order made by Deputy Police Commissioner, Najafgarh Subdivision, dated November 5, 2020.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ashish Kumar Meena found Narula guilty of the offense under Article 188 IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by an official), noting that he had not produced the defense evidence against evidence of the prosecution.
The maximum penalty provided for in this article is imprisonment for up to six months and a fine.
“The evidence provided by the prosecution inspires the confidence of this tribunal. The witness gave consistent testimony and there is no reason to doubt it, ”the judge said in the judgment.
During the trial, the convict declared in court that he was falsely involved.
