Couple tie a knot in hospital after groom tests positive for coronavirus; the photo goes viral

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the celebrations of many couples who will be getting married this month. Many have decided to postpone their marriage while a few have decided to get married in the presence of only 5 to 50 people. But, a couple from Kerala’s Alappuzha district got married in hospital as the groom tested positive for COVID-19 days before his wedding.

Photos of the Kerala couple have gone viral on social media. In the photos, the bride was seen wearing a PPE kit while the groom opted for traditional clothing – a blue shirt and a dhoti.

The groom identified as Sarath Mon (28 years old) from Kainakary in Alappuzha, married his fiance Abhirami (20 years old) from Thekkanaryad area in the COVID department of the hospital. According to media reports, Sarath, who was working overseas, had tested positive while preparing for her marriage and her mother was also said to have tested positive for COVID. Both have been transferred to the COVID department at Alappuzha Medical College. The couple’s wedding was due to take place on April 25. However, the family and relatives decided not to postpone it and decided to hold the ceremony on the scheduled date taking all precautions.

They requested permission from the District Collector to organize the wedding ceremony at the hospital.
Soon after they tied Sarath and Abhirami, their wedding photos and videos of the ceremony went viral on social media.
