When Evan walked into Candice’s life in 2014, it was at a time when those around her were telling her that she should prioritize finding love the same way she prioritizes her job. Her coworkers and employees were so serious about it that they threatened to create a Tinder profile for her, prompting her to take action.
“They clearly thought I needed a boyfriend,” she jokes, thinking back to her single days. At their request, she created an account, worked on her profile, and was surprised to find that she was an immediate match for Evan. His first impression of their conversation was that he was kind. She also gleaned that he was “serious” about getting to know her because he asked her to meet him for dinner. From there, sparks flew.
âWhen Evan walked into the restaurant, I immediately thought he was extremely handsome in person,â she says. âHe had a classic adult man style around him. From the minute we started talking at this restaurant I knew we would be together and have been together ever since.
Evan also left their first meeting knowing she was something special. As they transitioned from dating to a serious relationship over the years, that feeling grew stronger.
âWhen I first met Candice, I was blown away by her positivity and encouraging manners,â he says. âI have never been so encouraged by someone to really show what I can do and [who] also loved doing so many things with me. We laughed, traveled, dined and enjoyed each other’s company. She encouraged and supported me in [ways] I never knew and started to feel that we could do anything together. I loved our time together and the time apart just got harder and harder. It was then that I knew I had found this one.
After a proposition on a day that Candice now considers the “best, worst day of my life” (more on that later), the couple looked to their future. Although they had to postpone their nuptials for an entire year due to COVID, they made their love official on July 5, 2021 in front of family and friends they couldn’t imagine celebrating without the previous year. They said “yes” by the ocean in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
âOur wedding day was a dream,â she says in retrospect. âEvery detail was perfect. It was more than I could ever ask for.

When the bride knew she had found the right one
âI knew Evan was going to be my husband after he treated me after tearing my ACL,â she says. âPeople know that marriage is committed to include ‘for better or for worse, through illness and health.’ Evan really showed it. At the time, he was traveling the east coast for a very demanding job. He stopped everything he was doing to make sure I was taken care of. I knew then that we were going to get married.

How the groom knew he had found this one
After feeling loved, supported and encouraged by Candice throughout their relationship, Evan realized he couldn’t be without her. âI loved our time together and each time we were apart was getting harder and harder and that’s when I knew I had found the right one,â he says.

Proposal
Evan asked Candice the question after an event she organized that turned out to be chaotic. A concert she gave was not going as planned and she was dealing with angry customers. Things went well with the after party, especially when Evan took the stage. “All of a sudden I hear ‘Candice Davis, please come on stage!’ I was like, “awwwww man what now? I didn’t know my life was going to change. Evan started by holding my hand and telling the crowd, âI want to let you know how special this lady is. I thought he was saying this because he knew everyone was mad at me, but then he knelt down and said, “And I would like to ask him to be my wife.” He pulled out a Tiffany box and handed me the microphone. I said yes!’ Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. It was the best, worst day of my life. ”

The place
The Jersey natives checked out several venues when they researched where they were going to get married, but before they even started, Candice knew she wanted them to get married at One Atlantic Events in Atlantic City. âIt was exactly our style. Modern, chic, 360 view of the ocean, gourmet chef on duty⦠it was incredible, âshe says. âOnce we left seeing the space, Evan agreed that this was where we were to be married. The next day we posted a bond.

Winning cabinet
âAfter we locked the room, we started talking about the wardrobe,â says Candice. âWe weren’t going to have a theme, but we knew everyone at the wedding had to have a ‘look’. This is Evan’s department. He immediately started creating outfit moodboards for groomsmen and bridesmaids. Next, we landed on the blush pink and navy colors. We used these colors throughout the decor. We coordinated these colors throughout the wedding.

In memory
A sweet and sentimental idea, a few chairs during the ceremony were left open. Above them were framed photos of deceased loved ones, like Candice’s father.

The most memorable moment for the groom
âI had been trying to distract myself all day, laughing and joking with my groomsmen, at the thought of seeing Candice walking down the aisle. I had seen so many videos of men cracking up at the sight of their wives. I didn’t know if this would happen to me. We didn’t take a first look, so when she walked down the aisle it was the first time I’d seen her in her dress looking like the queen she is. The doors opened and it seemed that time had stood still for a minute. All I could see was my beautiful wife. I didn’t cry as she walked down the aisle, but once I started to say my vows, tears started streaming down my face. The joy that came over me at that time was overwhelming.

The most memorable moment of the bride
It was writing his vows. Right before the wedding, she walked on the beach and reflected on the fact that the same place she was going to say “yes” was pretty much the same place where she got one of her first jobs. âI looked towards the wedding venue and started to cry. It was such a complete moment, âshe says. âThe girl who worked so hard to reach the pinnacle of her career that her employees forced her to slow down to find love, was marrying this man. I had organized an event at my wedding venue early in my career. career out of college. I thought back then that I could never get married there and that was exactly where I was getting married. I sat on the sand with the sun on my face the sound of the ocean in the background and I wrote my best wishes to the love of my life It was a moment I wish I could live forever.

Welcome guests
The guests were very important to the couple, including Dr. Reverend James Lewis III, who married the couple. He was Candice’s late father’s best friend and she called him her uncle. âWe were supposed to get married on 7.5.20 but we postponed a full year to 7.5.21. We did this because I knew I needed my uncle’s presence and the love of our family and friends to anoint our marriage. We could have easily gone to the courthouse, but it wouldn’t have been so special.

The life of Mr. and Mrs.
âAs Evan would say, we were already married before the big chic party,â says Candice. âI like the life of a couple. I love coming home everyday with someone I know who supports me no matter what. Evan is my biggest blessing. I don’t see what my life would be like without him. We continue to work on our businesses as we run and manage our Airbnb properties. We released our first book together, âIt Starts With I Do: Our Wedding Journeyâ on September 15th. We will continue our podcast The Little Miss Entertainment Show and The Awesome Nobody Podcast.
