Having experienced homophobia in her early days in Nashville, Eden said she and Hoover chose a resort in Playa Del Carmen for their wedding venue after seeing LGBTQ couples highlighted in photos on websites on the town. However, as they sifted through marriage documents ahead of their nuptials, the couple faced some trouble over their sexuality.

“We keep getting these contracts that say ‘married,'” Eden said. “It’s kind of a slap in the face.”

Despite the heteronormative contracts, the wedding planning process went smoothly and left the old american idol contestant feeling “so excited” for the big party. “Hilary grew up in Indiana and I grew up in Florida, but somehow we both chose to surround ourselves with very similar people,” Eden said.

In fact, the fun will last a little longer than just a day. “We’re getting married on a Thursday, so a lot of people stay five or six days. And that’s what we wanted…more than one night. Because that would have been super overwhelming for both of us,” she detailed . “Like, how can we absorb all of this in one night? I think having people there longer than a weekend will help dampen our excitement.”

Eden and Hoover plan to say “yes” on a bridge to the beach, the musician said, “so we’ll have the beach vibe, but no sand.”

Offering more visual detail, she continued, “We’re huge when it comes to lighting, so we have these really cool uplights that are going to show off pinks and blues and greens. And we have disco balls!”

Before the ceremony, Eden also gave some advice to other couples wishing to marry: “Have fun! Don’t take things too seriously. The most important thing in marriage is that you are so happy to Being with your partner on your wedding day Figure out what’s important to you early on and don’t let anyone else push you into what they think is important.

She then explained how she took a fun, not-so-serious approach with Hoover. “I think, for us, it was about making sure everyone could be there. Finding a resort where everyone would be comfortable and able to afford it, but still feel like they’re in heaven. . And also the music,” Eden added. “Those were the two important things for us. And then everything else is just details.”

It looks like the week-long wedding festivities have begun, as Eden posted a photo with Hoover – apparently taken at a resort – for instagram Monday next to the caption, “Kicked off wedding week in paradise with my bride! 👰🏽‍♀️👰🏼‍♀️ #BrookeSaysHilYes
