Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty slams Jimmy Carr for ‘disgusting’ Holocaust joke

Paddy Doherty has slammed Jimmy Carr for a ‘disturbing’ joke about the deaths of members of the traveling community during the Holocaust.

The Celebrity Big Brother and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star slammed Carr about the routine in her latest Netflix stand-up special His Dark Material.

The comedian, known for his stand-up comedy and roles on shows like 8 out of 10 Cats, issued a ‘trigger warning’ to the audience at the start of his hour-long special, admitting his performance contained ‘stuff terrible”.

In a widely shared clip from the show, Carr joked about the horror of the Holocaust and “six million Jewish lives lost.”

As a punchline, the 49-year-old then cracked a joke that shed light on the murder of thousands of members of Europe’s traveling communities during World War II at the hands of the Nazis.

The comments were met with applause and laughter from the audience.

It sparked outrage from various travel charities and anti-hate groups after a clip was shared on social media earlier this week.

Now Mr Doherty, who lives in Chester but previously lived at Riverside Caravan Park in Queensferry, called the comedian’s joke ‘disgusting’ and ‘on a different level’.

Jimmy Carr comes under fire for a Holocaust joke he made.

He said: “The way this guy turned this into a joke is disgusting, it’s on a different level.

“Travellers are the most hated people on the planet and what have we ever done to anyone, I don’t know.

“I’m really, really disgusted”

Earlier this week, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust Executive Director Olivia Marks-Woldman said: “We are absolutely appalled by Jimmy Carr’s commentary on the persecution Roma and Sinti suffered under Nazi oppression, and horrified that peals of laughter followed his remarks.

“Hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti have suffered prejudice, slave labor, sterilization and mass murder simply because of their identity – these are not experiences to mock.”

The Traveler Movement, a charity which supports the travel community in the UK, said: ‘This is truly disturbing and goes way beyond humor.

In a tweet, the charity said: “We need all your support to call this #StopTravellerHate @StopFundingHate.”

The charity has launched a petition to Netflix calling for the “removal of segments of His Dark Material which celebrates the Roma genocide”.

Netflix, which was asked to remove the special, declined to comment. Carr also did not comment.
